Iran launches missile attacks on multiple sites in Jordan, including a US F-35 fighter hangar
International Desk: Tensions in the Middle East have reached a peak again since last night. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have launched long-range missile attacks on a US military base. The target was Jordan's Al-Azraq (Muwaffaq Salti) Air Base, where US forces and F-35 fighter jets are deployed.
The IRGC said it used long-range solid-fuel ballistic missiles to hit four important targets at the base. These include the F-35 fighter hangar and the command and control center. Iranian sources say the attack was carried out in retaliation for the joint US-Israeli operation.
The Jordanian military said it was able to destroy some of the missiles. However, some missiles were reported to have hit areas near the base. The number of casualties is not yet confirmed, but US sources are assessing the damage.
Iran said the attack was in retaliation for the US attack after it shot down a US Apache in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has already launched hundreds of missiles and drone attacks on various US bases in the Middle East in the conflict that began in February. Jordanian airspace was put on alert and sirens sounded in the surrounding areas.
US President Donald Trump's administration strongly condemned the attack and threatened retaliatory measures. The US Defense Department, the Pentagon, said it was monitoring the situation and coordinating with allies.
Meanwhile, Iran's supreme leadership warned that any US counterattack would be met with a strong response. Regional countries have expressed concern that the conflict could destabilize the entire Middle East and send oil prices skyrocketing.
